As part of the Martin Parr retrospective at the Barbican gallery I was invited by Martin Parr to set up a portrait studio inside the gallery. Guests and staff at the private view volunteered to have their portrait taken by me.
These are a selection of the results.

The photographs which follow are my response to the death of a close friend.
The work is not about absence, it is about my continued presence.

The first War Memorial I ever saw was at the top of our street. You couldn’t read the names, as the acid rain from the local factories had washed them all away.
These images are about reading those names.
The decisive moment has passed.

I left Valley View Junior School, Jarrow, in 1978.
14 years later I went back to my hometown to find out what had happened to the rest of the class, most of whom I hadn’t seen since.
The more people I found and photographed the more I realised I was looking for me.

I never thought of my Grandparents as Old.
This series of portraits were taken at Somerset House in Petworth. A residential care home and former Alms House set up in 1746 by Lord Leconfield.
I tried to photograph the residents as if they were my Grandparents.
